FAQ

What will the money will be used for?

Easter Seals will be getting funds for my walk.  The other walker needs to let me know what Breast Cancer organization will be getting the funds. We will use a portion of the funds to maintain our health, comfort and safety,(e.g.,food, replacement gear, cell phone for emergencies, etc.,) during the walk.  Any funds we get before we start will go to the project for getting the needed equipment and the remainder(which will hopefully be a far larger sum with your help) goes to charity.  After completion all funds left will be divided up and sent to the organizations we are doing this for--if you want all your funds to go to just one let us know and we will keep it separate earmarked specifically for donation to one of the chosen charities. We will break down the budget 50/50 for most funds then any preferred funds will be held over to be directed to Easter Seals and Breast Cancer after the expenses of the walk itself are covered.   All remaining funds will be distributed to the listed charities with in 72 hours of finishing the walk.

Why are you doing this walk?

We plan on walking from Homestead Florida to Seattle Washington. We plan on doing this to raise money for Easter Seals, Breast Cancer, and  Search and Rescue awareness.

Can I call you toll free?

Yes, if you are a U.S. resident you can use this Google app below to call and talk at no cost to you.

Why aren’t you a 501(c)(3) “non-profit”

The IRS has a two-tiered filing fee structure. Most organizations pay the standard $850 filing fee when sending their application to the IRS. Organizations that expect to have (or have had) no more than $40,000 in gross revenue for the first four years combined can pay a reduced filing fee of $400. That is the Reason why we are not a 501(c)(3) "non-profit" If we get what we are after on The Walk we would have to pay $850 and that money could be used better.

How are you going to do the walk with the health problems you guys have?

Well, I would have to say one step at a time.  If there is a reason to stop and rest we will. After all we are not trying to set a time record here.

What are the laws concerning service animals? I wanted to know becuse of Athena.

Well, I see that you know that Athena is a service animal. The ADA has some good information on that one http://www.ada.gov/qasrvc.htm I would also check out http://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm You could also give the ADA a phone call 24 hours a day at 800-514-0301 (voice) and 800-514-0383 (TTY) I hope that helps you out.

Where will you go to the Bathroom?

In a bathroom of course if possible, we're civilized fellows.  So we will be relieving ourselves discreetly wherever public decency and property rights permit. Public restrooms such as those at roadside rest stops are preferable, behind a bush while camping, digging a hole to bury any waste if need be while doing our best respecting private and public property along the way. When you gotta go you gotta go, it's perfectly natural.

Questions are welcome.
